Meeting Carp Celebrities

The fantastic annual carp show I Holland, "Carp den Bosch" (prior Carp Zwolle), is a great event. Even for a non-carpist like myself.
Imagine a hall with several 1000 men all dressed in olive- and camou-colored clothes... do you have any idea, how difficult is it to find your own husband? Well I do.
But he can always find all the celebrities. I just recognize their voices, because they often join us for supper, through the iPad. They just don't know.

"Carp Celebrities" are more than influencing - they are inspiring

Rachid met his first “celebrity” back in February 1992. He and his friend Rudy, who used to work as a shop manager at Trafford Angling Supplies, got the opportunity to fish in a small lake next to Withy Pool, both owned by the legendary Kevin Maddocks.

After the first night by the lake, Rachid and Rudy got very surprised, when they got to meet Kevin Maddocks, who offered them a tour through his boilie production next to the lakes. After the tour he told them, they were welcome to fish in Withy Pool, and so they did. 30 years on, they still talk about it.

The Dutch carp shows “Carp den Bosh” (previously called Carp Zwolle) are full of celebrities. They might be well-known, but above all, they er forthcoming and friendly. They know stuff, but they especially know how to talk about the things they know. That also goes for Julian Cundiff, who didn’t hesitate for a second when Rachid called on him to do an exclusive Teams Session for The Association of Danish Carp Anglers.

A very special "carp hero"

One of Rachid’s absolute biggest carp angling heroes is the now 60-year-old carp anglerJulian Cundiff.Always forthcoming and friendly.
During the corona lock down Cundiff took out nearly two hours one Saturday evening to meet 30 Danish Carp Anglers online via Teams. During that time, they talked “Old school vs. new school”, rigs, gear, and the importance of having a life next to your carp angling adventures and being grateful for the support from the family.

"Cundiff Quote"

- I have no children who can remember me and talk about me when I am no longer here. So my goal is to help as many as possible as well as possible while I can. I would like to be remembered for being a nice guy who was happy to share his knowledge and teach others. That my legacy.

Julian Cundiff

Rachid is thrilled about Dave Levys book: Fallen Kings. The hope is to get Levy to Denmark to give Danish Carp Anglers his view on carp angling, which they had a serious chat about this year 2023.

Team Taska was a great experience, when they visited the lake of Jels. Back then, we only had one car, so I also got to meet them, when I drove out to check up on Rachid.
