We can no longer count the number of holidays we have had by Lac du Salagou in Southern France. Here we have managed to combine serious Carp Angling and relaxing family holiday.
We allways rent a camping car, some call it a mobile home, for our holidays, and then we drive off.
In the early zeroes we drove to the campsite by Lac du Salagou. It was VERY basic back then, and rated with only two stars. There were about 50 permanent camping residents on the site, and a lot af school classes on trip.
It was a very primitive site, but on the restaurant next door, there were concerts every night, and you could hire bikes, swim in the lake. Over all there was a special magic by the site.
The earth is red. Don't wear shoes you want to keep looking new, because shoes worn by Salagou will always be marked by Salagou.
For years we kept coming back, even though the standard of the camping site decreased.
I 2016 we decided to try another campsite, we won't mention the name, but it wasn' for us.
By all means, the facilities were great, but the atmosphere wasn't up our hill.
We decided to drive back to the north of France, but on a nostalgic note, we stopped by at "our old" camping site to have lunch and say goodbye to this spot of heaven on earth. But did we get surprised?
Yes! New owners had taken over, and a great refurbishment had begun. The restaurant also had new owners, and the thrill was back.
We stayed rest of the holiday on Camping Club Lac du Salagou, and Rachid went angling by the lake, as he used to, and we all found peace again. We have travelled over most of the world, but when we go for peace, we go to Lac du Salagou.
